2007-20= 08 Course Syllabus

 

Course Objectives:

 

Principles of Engineering is a course that teaches problem-solving skills utilizing math and science concepts as they relate to engineering principles.  This = course will explore various technology systems and manufacturing processes to help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technolo= gy in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people.  The course also includes concerns = about social and political consequences of technology change.  Heavy emphasis will be placed on t= he development of skills engineers need to become successful professionals. Th= ese skills include:

  • Computer Design =
  • Mathematics=
  • Engineering Desi= gn Process
  • Technical Drafti= ng

 

Instruction will be accomplished through classroom lecture, demonstration, guided pract= ice, and hands-on engineering based challenges.

 

Course Assignments:

 

I.      =             &nb= sp; Homework: may include workshe= ets, design ideas, sketching and general preparation for presentations.

II.      =             Laboratory/Classwork: constitutes a majority of the student’s time in class.  Large and comp= lex design projects will be completed in the computer design lab.

III.      =           Tests/Quizzes<= /b>: will be given periodically to ensure mastery of material.

IV.      =           Semester exam<= /b>: a semester exam wil= l be given at the end of each semester and may be in the form of a project.=

 

Textbook:<= /span>

 

There will be no textbook assigned for this class.  However, a textbook will be utiliz= ed at times for reference and may be taken home for specific assignments.

Classroom rules:

 

  1. No hats, Do-rags= , head coverings of any type will be permitted in class.
  2. No electronic de= vices are permitted in class at any time.
  3. Do not interrupt class. Raise your hand if you have something to input or question to a= sk.
  4. No tardies.
  5. When bell rings students are to be seated and quiet while waiting for further instructions.
  6. No food, drink, = candy, or gum will be permitted in the computer lab area.
  7. The bell does not dismiss the class, I do. Do not stand by door waiting for the bell.
  8. Be prepared ever= yday for class.  Bring your su= pplies everyday. 

 

Assignments:

 

  1. No cheating. Evi= dence of cheating will earn you a zero for the assignment.=
  2. Turn in all work= on time.  Late penalties will apply with out exception.
  3. Make-up work is = your responsibility, not mine.  One extra day will be allowed for each day missed but no more.<= /span>
  4. There is no extra credit given at any time.
  5. All design proje= cts must be turned in on the due date even if incomplete. Design projects = or presentations may be made up if extenuating circumstances warrant it. = The project must be made up during the same semester it was assigned.  An extension on a project may= be given only after submission of a written statement requesting the extension and stating the reason for the need of an extension.

 

Classroom:=

 

  1. No unauthorized = access of the internet.
  2. No games on comp= uter with out express permission from instructor.
  3. Do not change an= ything on the computers (i.e. screensavers, backgrounds, any settings of any kind).
  4. Leave my stuff a= lone at all times.
  5. The radio is controlled by the instructor.  Do not change my station or I will subject you the classical mu= sic or Barney’s greatest hits.
  6. Be safe at all times.
