THE COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

The purpose of  Cooperative Education is to provide students the opportunity to connect what they learn in school with work-site application to enable a smooth transition into the work force or postsecondary education upon high school graduation. Students benefit in a variety of ways which include:

 

*       developing a basic foundation of applied academics and mastery of workplace skills;

*       making a smooth transition from one level of education to the next;

*       gaining technical and general workplace skills;

*       completing specific job tasks for an employer;

*       preparing for the twenty-first century, technical work force, high-wage jobs, and life-long learning;

*       providing opportunities for students that link school-based learning, work-site learning, and work experiences leading to high school graduation with postsecondary options and preparation for the world of work; and

*       earning the same number of units as he/she would have earned from being in class.

 

 

 

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 

*       A signed educational and training agreement by the school, employer, parents or legal guardians, and student;

*       Written permission of parents or legal guardians for students to participate;

*       A list of competencies to be mastered;

*       A minimum of an 85 average over the three preceding semesters at the Career Center;

*       Transportation to and from the work site;

*       Proof of adequate insurance coverage;

*       Behavior which includes maturity, dependability, reliability, and those traits deemed necessary to be successful on the job; and

*       Completion of 75% of the program competencies.
